Montana Council On Developmental Disabilities

Advocacy, partnership, and leadership for a more inclusive Montana

The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities works statewide to improve opportunities, services, and community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. Based in Helena, we partner with advocates, families, service providers, and policymakers to help Montanans live, learn, work, and participate fully in their communities.

Supporting Real Progress for People Across Montana

Our Focus Areas

Families, advocates, and community partners across Montana want a future where people with developmental disabilities have equal access to opportunity and support. The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities works with partners statewide to strengthen policies, programs, and community solutions that help make that future possible.

A Council Built to Serve Montana

Over 50 Years Supporting Disability Advocacy

The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities was established under the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act to improve systems and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. For more than five decades, the Council has helped shape policies and programs that strengthen education, employment, healthcare, and community living across the state.

Council members include individuals with developmental disabilities, family members, advocates, and professionals who bring diverse perspectives to the table. Their lived experiences and professional knowledge guide priorities and ensure that decisions reflect the real needs of Montanans and their communities.

When Self-Advocates Lead, Communities Grow Stronger

Stories of Progress and Possibility

Across Montana, individuals with developmental disabilities are stepping forward as leaders in their communities. Through programs supported by the Council, self-advocates gain the confidence and tools to share their experiences, influence policy discussions, and help shape programs that affect their lives.

These stories show what becomes possible when people are given the opportunity to lead and participate fully in society. By listening to the voices of self-advocates and working alongside families and community partners, Montana continues moving toward a more inclusive future.
